You may remember the story of how we came to Driggs, Idaho in our article on the mural at Citizen 33. The takeaway from that incredible story was that amazing things happen (often in unpredictable and unplannable ways) when you say “yes” to invitations that cross your path.
The path that led to the Teton Arts mural was no different.
While we were parked at Citizen 33 to paint the mural, I often played live music at Citizen’s outdoor seating space. One evening, a table of guests was really enjoying the show. Afterwards, they came over and invited me to come play later that week at Tributary, their residential community right down the road.
I played a few wonderful evenings at Tributary and management expressed interest in supporting a mural in the community.
Fast forward a week and we were collaborating with Teton Arts Council to bring kiddos out to paint the mural at Rise Coffeehouse. We mentioned Tributary was interested in supporting a community mural, and we asked if they knew of a wall in town that could use some love. “Yeah! Actually, ours!” was the happy reply.
The Teton Arts Council is an amazing community resource in Driggs, Idaho. With the mission of “Art For All”, TAC provides a community studio, as well as classes and events for just about any person of any age in the Teton Valley. Located near the airport, the building was sometimes mistaken for an airplane hangar, and it’d been a pipe dream to brighten its facade to make it look like what it truly is – a center for art!
The mural was an all-hands-on-deck community effort. Community members from across the valley came together to bring it to life. Even the bus pitched in! Thank you to everyone. Thank you to Teton Arts for allowing us to call this space home for the weeks we painted the mural. Thank you to Tributary for making the project possible! Thank you to all the volunteers who braved the sunshine and wind with us. And thank you to the Driggs community at large. It has been truly magical.
