What it values.  What makes up its heart and soul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Community in Sparta came out in full force to paint this mural.  Some days it was hot in the sun.  Some days it was chilly with a biting wind.  They were there every day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mural art honoring&#8230;.ART!<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sparta mural was painted on the wall of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Lark's Nest (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/larksnestsparta\" target=\"_blank\">Lark&#8217;s Nest<\/a>, in downtown Sparta.  Many hands came together to make it happen: Alleghany Arts Council members, community members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was a community member&#8217;s idea to emphasize the ART in Sparta.  Laura Gentry &#8211; who was there painting the mural every day &#8211; had the idea and it was just <em>perfect!<\/em>  Here is the mural before the addition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1440\" height=\"1079\" src=\"http:\/\/artwethereyet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/street-mural-art-we-there-yet.jpg\" alt=\"mural art\" class=\"wp-image-3353\" srcset=\"https:\/\/artwethereyet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/street-mural-art-we-there-yet.jpg 1440w, https:\/\/artwethereyet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/street-mural-art-we-there-yet-768x575.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The most welcoming community<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sparta is a small town tucked up high in the Appalachian Mountains, just a stone&#8217;s throw from the Blue Ridge Parkway. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During our time in Sparta, the Arts Council was our family.  There painting with Jos\u00e9 every day.  Taking us out for drives around the beautiful region. We were just simply floored and humbled by the community of Sparta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Thank you to the Alleghany Arts Council<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a aria-label=\"Alleghany Arts Council  (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.alleghanyartscouncil.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Alleghany Arts Council <\/a>sponsored the paint for this mural as well as the <a aria-label=\"Alleghany JAM mural (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/artwethereyet.com\/blog\/2020\/01\/23\/school-mural\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alleghany JAM mural<\/a>, and the Council also made a generous <a aria-label=\"$1000 dollar donation (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/fundraising.fracturedatlas.org\/art-we-there-yet\" target=\"_blank\">$1000 dollar donation<\/a> to Art We There Yet just before our departure from Sparta.
