When the students starting brainstorming how the music made them feel, some of the input was light and joyful.
I feel as if I were at the beach, with friends and family, content with my own thoughts.
But other times, it was a little heartbreaking to read.
A veces me siento como si no tuviera nadie, como si no tuviera nada. Sometimes I feel like I don’t have anyone or anything.
And so we decided to take those feelings, and rather than dismiss them as invalid, we give them a place in the song. Then we followed them with the affirmation,
Pero eso no es cierto. But that’s not true.
Songwriting is an exercise that is at once introspective, fun, and expressive. This group took the process in stride and created such a beautiful piece. And with that, I let you enjoy watching the process unfold…
I feel as if I were at the beach
Con amigos, con familia, relajandome, disfrutandome
With friends, with family, relaxing, enjoying myself
Music in the wind, I feel so happy
Nadie me interrumpiera, con mis pensamientos estoy contento
Nobody interrupting me, content with my own thoughts
A veces me siento
Sometimes I feel
Como si no tuviera nadie
Like I don’t have anyone
Como si no tuviera nada
Like I don’t have anything
Pero eso no es cierto
But that’s not true
Me pierdo, me ando desesperando la soledad
I lose myself, I walk in desperation and loneliness
Como si estuviera viajando hacia el desierto
As if I were traveling out to the desert
Pero eso no es cierto
But that’s not true
Pero eso no es cierto
But that’s not true
I feel as if I were in the clouds
Llorando de soledad, viajando sobre mis lágrimas
Crying with loneliness, traveling above my tears
It’s not a lie, I’ll explain it to you
Cuando lloro no lo puedo controlar
When I cry, I can’t control it
Eso es la verdad
That’s the truth
A veces me siento
Sometimes I feel
Como si no tuviera nadie
Like I don’t have anyone
Como si no tuviera nada
Like I don’t have anything
Pero eso no es cierto
But that’s not true
Me pierdo, me ando desesperando la soledad
I lose myself, I walk in desperation and loneliness
Como si estuviera viajando hacia el desierto
As if I were traveling out to the desert
Pero eso no es cierto
But that’s not true
Pero eso no es cierto
But that’s not true
