A Mural Celebrating Learning

by Art We There Yet? September 20, 2019
FacebookTwitterPinterest

Of all our school murals, the first was painted at Tanglewood Middle School in Greenville, South Carolina, USA. It was a beautiful experience and the perfect beginning to the journey.

The value of student participation in school murals

The kids participated in painting the mural, making it their own and deepening their sense of ownership and pride in their school community. In turn, their enthusiasm inspired us and re-affirmed why we are doing this project. We are so very proud of you all!

Before we left Tanglewood, we made an announcement over the school intercom. We encouraged the students – in both English and Spanish – to think of the impact on the present and future of their school.

They beautified their space, and honored the school community, in one stroke of the brush.

The future will also benefit. Thousands of students will walk these halls in the future. They will see the mural, it will brighten their day, it will help them feel at home and among their community.

Dedicated educators mean everything

We never would have connected with Tanglewood, were it not for Maureen Phend. Maureen is one of those educators that goes above and beyond, living and breathing her profession. Without her reaching out to us, we never would have stopped in Greenville.

Maureen started following Art We There Yet from the very beginning. She contacted us early on, so we always planned for Greenville to be one of our first stops on the Art We There Yet journey.
