Playing With Perspective: A Mural Time Lapse
My mural in El Sauce was a labor of love. I began painting in April, and it took just over a month to complete. El Sauce (pronounced el-sow-say) is my hometown, a beautiful small town tucked between Nicaragua’s volcano chain and mountain highlands. I moved away at 17, I have studied art and traveled the world. But I have always wanted to return to El Sauce and share some of the beautiful things I’ve seen and learned. I was very grateful for the time and opportunity to create this mural during my latest visit home.
The mural is an appropriation of the 1947 woodcut, “Other World”, by M.C. Escher. M.C. Escher has been one of my greatest inspirations in my work, and I loved the idea of painting an interactive mural that inspires Sauceños to interact with its optical illusion.
