To remove the floor of an old school bus is no joke! After removing the seats, taking out the old floor is a must. Why? Because you never know how much rust is under there. Before you spend thousands of dollars building on top of it, you need to ensure you’re building on a solid foundation!
How to remove the floor can change school bus-by-school bus, but here is out we did with ours.
Our bus came with in-floor tracking. This made seat removal a breeze, but we found later that this came at a cost. Removing the tracking itself was TOUGH.
But we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
Tools Required:
- Pry-bar
- Angle grinder
- Drill
- Hammer
- Safety gloves and glasses
- First, the liner around the tracking has to be removed. Wack each screw with a hammer a few times, then bring it up with the drill. Stubborn screws can be yanked up with a small pry-bar.
- Next, the rubber had to be removed. The best tool for this is a large pry-bar. Seriously, wear gloves for this because you’re working with years of grime and nasty!
- Next comes pulling up the old plywood. This is fun. Your best tool, again, is the large pry-bar. Safety goggles are a good idea because rusty nails are gonna start flying!
- Chances are you’ll have a lot of nails stubbornly holding to the metal floor. Pull as many up with the pry-bar as you can, then go at the rest with an angle grinder!
Next step is removing that floor tracking!
